Hyamiciate/Della (Rice) Sylvester is a First Nations Medicine Woman and Healer, cultural keeper, singer, ethnobotanist, and teacher of the Cowichan people of Vancouver Island. At an early age Della was trained in the ethical ways of uses and practices of plant relations from her aunties and grandmothers. Engaged deeply in traditional ways of knowing, Della has been studying the medicinal uses of plants all her life and has vast knowledge of Pacific Northwest native plants and their uses. Join us as she shares plant identification, stories associated with each, cultural protocols, and how to transform these plants into medicines.

Gatherer to Gardener is honored to host Della to provide this culturally sensitive medicine-making workshop and nature walk. Della is a dynamic presenter and engages audiences with songs, stories, prayer, humor, and knowledge, and skillfully infuses both traditional and western knowledge systems into her teachings. Join us for a special day gaining a deeper understanding of plant relations and experience hands-on medicine-making, integrated with  storytelling, ceremony and song.
